Craigavon &
Banbridge Women's Aid offers information, advice, support, safe
accommodation, aftercare, outreach, Advocacy and counselling to
women and their children affected by domestic abuse. Craigavon &
Banbridge Women’s Aid also seeks through its work to promote
healthy and non-abusive relationships.
Craigavon and Banbridge
Women's Aid strives to create a safe and supportive society for
women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse by
challenging attitudes and beliefs, which perpetuate such abuse.
COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES ~
Court
Support is
available during all scheduled Family Court and Domestic
Violence Court sessions in Craigavon Court House. A private
room is available for women attending these courts, and is
staffed by Craigavon & Banbridge Women's Aid.
Armagh Domestic Violence Drop
In ~ In
partnership with CAB and PSNI, a one stop shop is offered every
Tuesday morning (9.30am ~ 12.30pm) for women affected by
domestic abuse. The Drop In can be found on the First Floor of
the Old Technical Building on the Downshire Road. Appointments
are not necessary.
Banbridge Domestic Violence
Drop In ~ In
partnership with CAB and PSNI, a one stop shop is offered every
Wednesday afternoon (2.00pm ~ 4.30pm) for women affected by
domestic abuse. The Drop In can be found on McCrum’s Court.
Appointments are not necessary.
Outreach
~ An Outreach Worker can offer information, advice, and support,
either at a woman’s home or a safe place of her choice, which
will be on the woman’s terms and respectful her needs. Our
Young Person’s Worker also offers Outreach to Young People in
the community.
Advocacy
~ Staff can support women by accompanying them to court,
solicitors and other agencies as appropriate.
The Teen Relationship Programme ~ encourages young people
to look at what a healthy relationship is and teaches them the
tools to allow them to identify unhealthy relationship. This
programme is aimed at 14 ~ 16 year olds and is offered to
Schools and Youth Groups.
HORIZON HOUSE BASED SERVICES ~
Counselling
~ A client centred therapeutic approach for women affected by
domestic abuse.
Family Work
~ The focus of therapy is on the whole family as the client (one
or more family members), and considers relationships between
family members.
PROGRAMMES ~
We always try to provide
exciting and new opportunities for women to come together and
learn. The following is a summary of the already established
programmes.
Monday
Charis 10.30 ~ 12.30pm
Activities include personal development programmes, educational
courses as well as arts and crafts and therapy through art.
Tuesday
Coffee Morning 10.30 ~ 12.30pm
An
opportunity to meet other women and to make new friends.
Wednesday
Move On Journey to Freedom 10.30 ~ 12.30pm
A support
group experience for women affected by domestic abuse. An
opportunity to share experiences in a safe and supportive
environment.
LEAF 10.30 ~ 12.30pm
LEAF is a
self help group open to all women.
Thursday
Counselling
Contact
reception in Horizon House for further details of availability.
Friday
Counselling and Therapeutic Programmes
Programmes such as Bodytalk and Media therapy are offered on
Fridays. Contact reception for up to date information.
Kid’s
Corner is
available for children of those women attending programmes, and
in addition specific programmes are offered for school aged
children throughout the year ranging from Health Eating to Arts
& Crafts. A summer scheme is also offered during August. Full

SAFE ACCOMMMODATION BASED SERVICES ~
The
Refuge is a
safe environment for families fleeing domestic abuse. Families
can stay as long as they need. There is a team of staff based
in the refuge who are ready to listen, ready to help and ready
to support every woman.
Staff will also provide support when working with other agencies
and access to link workers such as Social Workers, Health
Visitors, Educational Welfare Officers and Ethnic Minority
Support Groups.
The Chill Out House
is for young people living in the refuge. There is a wide range
of activities to access and opportunities to meet new friends
and to receive support fro our Young Person’s Worker and peers.
The Den
offers supervised play for children aged between 0 – 10.
Children can have fun, and make new friends.
Aftercare for women provides practical support whilst in
the Refuge and builds relationship for on going support
following resettlement in the community.

OPPORTUNITIES
Craigavon & Banbridge Women's
Aid is a voluntary organisation. The contribution made by
volunteers adds value to and enhances the existing service
provision. We provide training, guidance and support to all
volunteers to enable them to fulfil their roles within the
organisation.
Craigavon & Banbridge Women's
Aid welcomes any application to join our volunteer team; there
are opportunities to volunteer across the full range of services
